Code of Conduct Contract

This form is due August 20, 5:00 PM (Click here for a printable copy)

Please read through the following guidelines and sign at the bottom.

  1. All students will act with integrity and treat all staff members, student leaders and fellow participants with respect and honesty. Failure to comply will result in a warning, removal from upcoming performance, and finally dismissal from the ensemble. This is subjective to the situation and the judgment of the staff.

  2.  All students will be at rehearsals on time, all the time. Exceptions must be approved by Mr. Morehouse two weeks in advance and include a written note from the parent or appropriate authority. If a student misses more than one hour of the rehearsal he/she is considered absent. Students must be present at the Thursday practice to participate in the weekend performances. Failure to follow these policies will not only result in poor ensemble performances but the following concrete consequences as well:

    1. One unexcused tardy will result in a warning.

    2. Two or three unexcused tardy arrivals will result in removal from the next performance.

    3. Four unexcused tardy arrivals will result in dismissal from the organization.

    4. One unexcused absence will result in removal from the next performance.

    5. Two unexcused absences will result in dismissal from the organization.

  3. All students will wear the Thomas Dale Marching Knights uniform with pride. At the director’s discretion, anyone who does not have the appropriate parts of their uniform will not participate in the performance. This includes shoes, gloves, socks, t-shirt, instrument and any other item deemed appropriate by the staff. When the uniform is worn, the student may not wear noticeable jewelry. Earring studs are acceptable, but necklaces, large earrings, bracelets, sunglasses, and watches are examples of jewelry that does not comply. All long hair should be worn up and hidden in the shako during performance.

  4. During each football game, students will have the time from the end of halftime until the end of the third quarter as a break. The band will always perform during the fourth quarter. Therefore, it is necessary that everyone prepares to play at the end of the third quarter. Anyone who is unprepared when the downbeat is given will not have a break the following week. Further consequences deemed appropriate by the director may be necessary for repeat offenses.

  5. During a football game, only members of the Thomas Dale High School Marching Knights may be present in the band’s reserved section of seating. All members will be prepared to play or cheer appropriately for the team.

  6. If a student is unprepared for the show and has consistently shown poor attitude and a failure to practice, the staff may remove that performer from the upcoming performance. Attitude is everything. Think positive and work hard.

  7. Student conflicts will not be tolerated. Anyone involved in a dispute with another band member (which not only affects those immediate individuals, but also the morale of the surrounding members) will suffer
consequences deemed appropriate by the director within the ensemble, as well as standard school consequences deemed necessary by the school administration. Most importantly, this is TEAM effort.  Work together and succeed together.

  8. The use of any tobacco product, alcohol, or illegal substance will result in the immediate dismissal of the individual and appropriate school  consequences deemed necessary by the administration.

  9. As a member of the Thomas Dale Marching Knights you are one of the most visible ambassadors of the school. Failure to acceptably represent Thomas Dale High School will result in consequences deemed appropriate by the director.

  10. These guidelines are in effect any time the band is gathered as an organization. Remember, your true character is determined by the acts you commit when you think no one is looking.

If these guidelines are followed, we will have a smooth and enjoyable season. Thank you in advance for your cooperation and willingness to succeed.
